Sustainability Schaffhauserland Tourism
"Tourism brings progress. As one of the largest sectors of the global economy, it has the power to connect cultures, open up new opportunities and promote sustainable development."
~ UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres
For this reason, we at Schaffhauserland Tourism are also striving to harness the power of our sector and make our contribution to sustainable development. The fact that around 8% of greenhouse gas emissions are attributable to global tourism reinforces the urgency and our determination to promote sustainability.
Vision & Goals
"Our vision as a DMO is to shape and promote the Schaffhausen region in a sustainable way by preserving the regional culture and environment and providing positive impetus for future generations."
To achieve this vision, we have set ourselves goals. These are strongly oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are the global goals for sustainable development that were set by 193 UN member states at the climate conference in Paris in 2015. Supplemented by a four-dimensional understanding of sustainability, which takes into account the ecological, social, economic and governance dimensions, we have created our own sustainability compass to guide us.
Sustainability compass
The four dimensions of sustainability are depicted at the core of the compass:
- Ecology
- Social affairs
- Economy
- Governance
In the outer circle are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are of particular relevance to us are of particular relevance to us and represent our overarching goals:
- SDG 5: Gender equality
- SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth
- SDG 10: Fewer inequalities
- SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
- SDG 12: Sustainable consumption and production
- SDG 13: Climate action
- SDG 15: Life on land
- SDG 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions
- SDG 17: Partnerships to achieve the goals
Procedure & milestones
From 2025, we will be working on implementing our future measures and goals. Individual goals will be prioritized and scheduled.
In March 2025, we integrated the topic of sustainability into our website with this landing page.
Together with tfy-consult, we developed a sustainability guideline in October 2024.
With the support of tfy-consult, the sustainability group held a workshop in June 2024 on the strategic direction of sustainability at Schaffhauserland Tourismus and in Schaffhauserland.
