Sustainability Schaffhauserland Tourism

"Tourism brings progress. As one of the largest sectors of the global economy, it has the power to connect cultures, open new opportunities, and promote sustainable development."
~ UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

Therefore, we at Schaffhauserland Tourism are also committed to leveraging the power of our sector and contributing to sustainable development. The fact that around 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions are attributable to worldwide tourism reinforces the urgency and our determination to promote sustainability.

Vision & Goals

"Our vision as a DMO is to sustainably shape and promote the Schaffhausen region by preserving regional culture and environment and setting positive impulses for future generations."

To achieve this vision, we have set goals that are strongly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). These are the global objectives for sustainable development, established in 2015 by 193 UN member states at the Paris Climate Conference. By incorporating a four-dimensional understanding of sustainability, which includes ecological, social, economic, and governance aspects, we have developed our own sustainability compass to guide our efforts.

Sustainability Compass

At the heart of the compass, the four dimensions of sustainability are illustrated:

  • Ecology
  • Social
  • Economy
  • Governance

In the outer circle, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are visible, which are of particular relevance to us and represent our overarching goals:

  • SDG 5: Gender Equality
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 13: Climate Action
  • SDG 15: Life on Land
  • SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Approach & Milestones

From 2025, we will be working to implement our future measures and goals. Individual goals will be prioritized and scheduled.

In March 2025, we integrated the theme of sustainability onto our website with this dedicated landing page.

Together with tfy-consult, we developed a sustainability guide in October 2024.

With the support of tfy-consult, the sustainability group held a workshop in June 2024 on the strategic direction of sustainability at Schaffhauserland Tourism and in the Schaffhauserland.

In 2023, Schaffhauserland Tourism formed a sustainability group with the aim of strategically anchoring the topic of sustainability and positioning its importance for the region.

OK:GO Logo. In black letters, OKGO is written in capitals. The two 'O's have a black dot, making them look like eyes.

OK:GO supports tourism providers in Switzerland in collecting and publishing information on the accessibility of their offers and services. This makes travel planning easier for people with disabilities, seniors, and families with young children.
Schaffhauserland Tourism is not only part of the initiative itself, but also supports members in registering their businesses.

This is the logo of partner companies of the Schaffhausen regional nature park. Next to the nature park logo, it says in black text: "Jointly committed to nature, people, and the region."

Schaffhauserland Tourism is a partner company of the Schaffhausen Regional Nature Park and thus stands for the values of Swiss Parks. Together, we are committed to the sustainable development of the region in harmony with nature and its inhabitants.
