The artificial pond was Switzerland's first pumped-storage reservoir in 1907 and was practically built by hand at the time.
At the Engeweiher there is a covered seating area with a barbecue area and a children's playground. Today, the area around the Schaffhausen pond is often used for various leisure activities such as walking or jogging.
