The site of the IWC headquarters in Schaffhausen used to be the orchard of the Allerheiligen monastery. Between 1874 and 1875, a factory building designed by architect G. Meyer was erected in the garden directly on the Rhine. The owner of the new building was the American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones. His pioneering spirit led to the establishment of the first watch manufactory in north-eastern Switzerland. In the building with the imposing façade, IWC has been producing watches for more than 150 years that have become classics around the world. In 1993, the company opened its doors to visitors for the first time to celebrate its 125th anniversary. Since then, the works of art of the watchmakers from Schaffhausen can be viewed and admired up close in the IWC Museum. Located on the top floor of the listed building, the watch museum was the first of its kind in Switzerland.
More than 230 carefully selected exhibits bear witness to a manufacturer that has made a name for itself from the very beginning through exceptional reliability and an unmistakable, universally appealing design.
