The Kesslerloch cave is one of the most important sites of the late Ice Age in Europe and has yielded traces of settlements from the Upper Palaeolithic (Magdalenian culture, 14,000-12,000 BC). The site was probably used by groups of hunters as a meeting place for seasonal hunting during the summer months. The cave covers an area of almost 200 m2 and is divided by a stone pillar.
