Rheinau Abbey Church
Visit the Rheinau monastery church, one of the most beautiful baroque churches in Switzerland.
Media
The Rheinau monastery church was modeled after a Vorarlberg cathedral: A seven-bay, pilastered hall; the transept and chancel are slightly raised and separated from the nave by a lattice.
On entering the church, the magnificent side altars are impressive. They are aligned like secondary backdrops to the center, the high altar.
The main theme of the church is Mary. The ceiling frescoes - painted by Francesco Giorgoli from Ticino - are still preserved in their original freshness. The magnificent choir screen was erected by the Constance locksmiths Allweiler and Scheuermann.
