The Munot fortress was built in the 16th century by the citizens of Schaffhausen through hard labor and still dominates the image of Schaffhausen's old town today. The city's landmark is a magnet for tourists and locals alike. Open-air cinemas, children's parties, dances and other events take place on its pinnacle. Munot bell The tower is home to the Munot watchwoman, who rings the famous Munot bell by hand every evening at 9.00 pm. In the summer of 2002, the bell was repaired and since August 26, 2002, the bell on the tower has once again been rung by hand for five minutes every evening at nine o'clock, as it has been since 1589.
