Munot
Munot - Schaffhausen's landmark, has towered over the city for over 400 years.

Media

The Munot Fortress was built in the 16th century by the citizens of Schaffhausen as part of their compulsory labor and continues to define the landscape of Schaffhausen’s Old Town to this day. The city’s landmark is a magnet for tourists and locals alike. Open-air movie screenings, children’s festivals, dance events, and other gatherings take place on its battlements.

The Munot bell is located in the tower, where the Munot watchwoman lives; every evening at 9:00 p.m., she rings the famous Munot bell by hand. The bell was repaired in the summer of 2002, and since August 26, 2002, it has once again been rung by hand every evening at 9:00 p.m. for five minutes—just as it has been since 1589.
