How was apple cider pressed in the past? What tools did our ancestors need in the forest and in the fields? How did children play 100 years ago, and what were the gender roles and workload like?

At the St. Katharinental Open-Air Museum—the only one of its kind in Switzerland—visitors get up close and personal with our history. What makes it unique is not only the diversity and abundance of the more than 10,000 original artifacts on display—covering agriculture, viticulture, transportation, trade, crafts, housework, and daily life—but also their atmospheric and visitor-friendly presentation across 2,000 m²—all without any glass display cases.

Guided tours featuring captivating stories and fascinating anecdotes are perfect for companies, clubs, families, and friends. They’re ideal to combine with a visit to the magnificent St. Katharinental monastery church and a chance to enjoy culinary delights on the picturesque terrace overlooking the Rhine.

The exhibition depot is open year-round by appointment. Since the premises are unheated, we recommend visiting between April 1 and October 31.
