Untertor
The Untertor marks the old town of Stein am Rhein and is one of the most impressive town gates in the region. With its striking tower and well-preserved walls, it is a reminder of the town's eventful history.
The tower, also known as the Zeitturm, was first mentioned in 1367 and guarded the important traffic route to Hegau. Like all the town gates, it was given a kennel-like porch with a trapdoor in 1520. It was destroyed during the bombing in 1945 and then rebuilt true to the original.
