Untertor
The Untertor marks the old town of Stein am Rhein and is one of the most impressive city gates in the region. With its distinctive tower and well-preserved walls, it recalls the city's eventful history.
The tower, also known as the Zeitturm, was first mentioned in 1367 and guarded the important trade route to Hegau. Like all city gates, it received a fortified annex with a trapdoor in 1520. It was destroyed during the bombing in 1945 and subsequently faithfully rebuilt.
