What is Old-Time Music? The term "Old-Time" refers to a style of North American folk music. Old-Time music evolved from the folklore of European and African immigrants. It is one of the genres of American roots music.

Old-time music has its roots in the traditional folklore of European immigrants, particularly the English, Irish, and Scots. In addition, old-time music incorporates a significant amount of African American musical culture, which was brought to America by slaves from Africa. Many of the dance tunes in old-time music can be traced back to old Central European pieces.
