Die im Jahr 1491 gebaute und dem heiligen Mauritius geweihte Bergkirche überragt das durch seinen Weinbau bekannte Dorf Hallau. Die erhöhte Lage bringt es mit sich, dass die Kirche im Blickpunkt des ganzen Klettgaus liegt und zum Wahrzeichen Hallaus geworden ist.
In 1974, it was declared an art monument of national importance due to its art-historical and historical significance. It underwent thorough restoration between 1976 and 1978 and was gently renovated again in 2015.
