Heinrich Moser, born in Schaffhausen, left for the Russian Empire in 1827, where he worked successfully as a watchmaker and merchant. He started a family in St. Petersburg and decided to return to his home canton in the mid-19th century. In Schaffhausen, he played a key role in driving industrialization forward: he invested in infrastructure development, co-founded a factory, and laid the foundations for the establishment of new factories by building waterworks. His son Henri, on the other hand, undertook adventurous journeys through Central Asia and worked as a diplomat, writer, and photographer. He left his homeland an important collection of ceremonial weapons and handcrafted objects, and he donated the Charlottenfels estate to Schaffhausen.
