The museum, named after Moser, offers insights into the life and work of the clock manufacturer and tradesman Heinrich Moser (1805-1874) and his son, the Orient traveler and collector Henri Moser (1844-1923), in three exhibition rooms with a wealth of individual scenes. Born in Schaffhausen, Heinrich Moser set off for the Tsarist Empire in 1827, where he was a successful watchmaker and merchant. He started a family in St. Petersburg and decided to return to his home canton in the middle of the 19th century. In Schaffhausen, he was instrumental in driving forward industrialization: He invested in the expansion of the infrastructure, co-founded a factory and created the conditions for the establishment of new factories by building the waterworks. His son Henri in turn undertook adventurous journeys through Central Asia and worked as a diplomat, writer and photographer. He bequeathed his homeland an important collection of ceremonial weapons and handicraft objects and donated the Charlottenfels estate to Schaffhausen.
