It was built in just three weeks in 1989 on behalf of the federal government, replacing an earlier tower constructed for surveying purposes. The design was created by Schaffhausen engineer Erwin Klaiber. The tower stands at 908.5 meters above sea level, approximately 93 meters south of the highest point in the canton of Schaffhausen. The observation deck is reached via 225 steps. Above the treetops, a unique panoramic view extends from the Black Forest to the Alps. A special feature of the Hagenturm is that it carries a radome of the Swiss Army at its summit. The plot of land, including the access path (2300 m2), belongs to the Swiss Confederation. The barbecue area near the tower offers an ideal stop for a pleasant hiking day.
