Schwarzes Horn
The Haus zum Schwarzen Horn is one of the most beautiful historic buildings in Stein am Rhein. Located directly on the town hall square, it is a real gem in the old town.
Stately corner building from the 15th century. In 1515, two projecting half-timbered storeys were added to the three-storey stone building. The ornamental stone bay window is striking. The house is the birthplace of Johann Rudolf Schmid, Baron von Schwarzenhorn, who served as imperial resident to the Turkish Sultan from 1629-1643. In 1914, the façade was painted with a depiction of his arrival in Stein am Rhein in 1664.
