Schwarzes Horn
The Haus zum Schwarzen Horn is one of the most beautiful historic buildings in Stein am Rhein. Located directly on the Town Hall Square, it is a true gem of the old town.
Imposing corner building from the 15th century. In 1515, two cantilevered half-timbered floors were added to the three-story stone structure. The delicate stone oriel window is striking. The house is the birthplace of Johann Rudolf Schmid, Baron of Schwarzenhorn, who served as imperial resident to the Turkish Sultan from 1629–1643. In 1914, the facade was painted with a depiction of his entry into Stein am Rhein in 1664.
